Home Remedies for Prickly Heat


Prickly heat, also known as heat rash or miliaria, occurs when sweat ducts become blocked, leading to red, itchy, and prickly bumps on the skin. While it's important to keep the affected area cool and dry, here are some home remedies that may help alleviate prickly heat:

  1. Cool Compress: Apply a cool compress or ice pack wrapped in a thin towel to the affected area for 10-15 minutes. This can help reduce inflammation and provide temporary relief from itching and discomfort.

  2. Stay Cool and Dry: Avoid excessive heat and humidity. Opt for a well-ventilated and air-conditioned environment if possible. Wear loose, lightweight, breathable clothing that allows air circulation and helps keep your skin dry.

  3. Calamine Lotion: Applying calamine lotion to the affected area can help soothe the itching and provide relief. Calamine lotion has a cooling effect on the skin and can help reduce inflammation.

  4. Aloe Vera Gel: Aloe vera gel has soothing and anti-inflammatory properties. Apply fresh aloe vera gel directly to the affected area to help calm the skin and reduce itching and inflammation.

  5. Oatmeal Bath: Taking a cool oatmeal bath can help relieve prickly heat symptoms. Add finely ground oatmeal (colloidal oatmeal) to a bathtub filled with cool water and soak in it for 15-20 minutes. Pat your skin dry gently afterward.
